Le Fonds AXA pour la Recherche souhaite favoriser l'émergence de leaders scientifiques de premier plan. Il accorde chaque année une trentaine de bourses Doctorales.

The principal criteria used to make a scientific and academic assessment of the applications submitted are listed below:
- The academic excellence of the candidate, assessed on the basis of his or her previous studies, and the excellence of his or her previous studies.
- The innovative approach and originality of the Ph.D. project, as well as its feasibility (access to resources, etc.), and the impact of its potential results.
- The international orientation and reach of the host research laboratory.
- The quality of the conditions offered to the Ph.D. applicant by the host laboratory.
- The feasibility (access to resources, etc.) of the project, and the impact of its potential results.
